It seems that we have not only been led up the garden path, but also up a dead end street or a "Cul de-sac" in modern terms.
So we look back in time for a point where we could see some sanity and sensible thinking going on.
We keep looking because the same old mistakes seem to have been repeated many times over the past few centuries. Nothing has changed, we have no greater wisdom now.
